Premise [Dec. 25th, 2007|01:55 am]
Winter, late 1940. German Occupied Paris, France. A puppet government is in control of all of Northern France and administrating most of the southern 'free zone'. The marionette in charge is 'President of the Council' Philippe Petain. The Nazis, however, are the council and pulling Petain's strings. The country has just been through hell and back. France officially fell on June 22, 1940 -- five short weeks after the true war started. The country was in shock by the quickly lost war and the Germans picked up all the pieces. Now, six months later, life is hardly the same.

Rations are low. Luxuries are unheard of other than cheap booze, free music, or show girls. Many families have been left wondering if their husbands and sons will come home, if they are prisoners of war, or if they are dead. Curfew is strictly enforced and the German patrols on the streets are all too eager to place punishment on those who do not follow the rules. All too often has a young lover slipped into the midnight streets only to end up in prison or worse.

Paris, the city of lights and love, seems to be walking on egg shells. Everyone is holding their breath for the next gunshot or restriction to be placed upon the community. There seems little to celebrate or enjoy in Parisian life these days, but most agree that life does go on. In the eyes of the government the war is over, yet life has not returned to normal. Most doubt it ever well. The general consensus seems to follow the idea of 'c'est la vie'. If people continue to fight, only more will be tortured and killed. So arms have been laid down and an uncomfortable peace has been found.

However, there are whispers in the streets, behind locked doors and in shadowed basements: France surrendered too fast, there is still a war to be fought. Perhaps it will not be fought with massive guns and planes, but in quieter ways. Governments can be shut down through sabotage, bombs and work shortages. Many are saying true Frenchmen cannot just lay down their arms in defeat, but they must take up the mantel of war again. A war in the shadows and swamps. The Resistance is being born.

This is the central story line for the game and it revolves around the normal human population. In the main, this is a mortals game. If you are interested in supernatural elements, read on to the next post. However, if you wish that to be a mystery, stop here and go write up an application!

The Supernatural [Dec. 25th, 2007|01:42 am]
There is more on heaven and Earth than dreamt of in most philosophies. Hitler, however, seemed to believe this philosophy more than many. Rumors connect him and the rise of the Third Reich to occult forces beyond that of simple men. He was a member of The Thule Society, an occult organization going decades strong by the point he joined. He sought the Spear that wounded Christ as well as the Holy Grail in efforts to increase his power. Though it cannot be confirmed anything supernatural ever truly contributed to his rise of power, his was a world filled with it. Therefore, in this setting, it will play a necessary part to our story.

The supernatural does exist in Vie en Guerre's world. At the moment, Hilter has called things more than human to his side. Some whisper that the reason he took Poland and then France so easily was because he did not just have humans fighting among his troops. Glimpses of fur, teeth and mammoth men are whispered among the ranks of opposing soldiers, but easily passed off as stress induced hallucinations. There have been bodies left for dead upon the field that look to have been more ravaged by large dogs than guns. The sane mind is able to ignore such things. However, war is rarely a sane.

Closer to home, there are always things in the dark. Especially in Paris. Lovely men and women with teeth just slightly too sharp and kisses of ecstasy. The city of lights is rife with dens of pleasure and sin filled with feasts for those that feed upon humanity. However, the supernatural is not always an 'evil' force in this story. There are also whispers of Muses who go about inspiring those left of the Bohemians. Protectors who roam the streets and make the occasional Nazi patrol disappear. No matter what, the shadows hide more than the budding resistance. They hide creatures who have survived far longer than a simple human war and will sustain long after the whole of Europe falls. They survive by not being seen and not getting involved. Will they be able to remain neutral now, though, as their city is destroyed piece by piece? Only the future will tell.

Supernaturals are open to application. These applications will be scrutinized far deeper than a normal application, however, and will be considered feature characters. Supernaturals on either side of the battle will be vital to plot and expected to work with mods through certain plots as they present themselves. If you have any questions, IM Ericka at CalypsoOfIsles on AIM.
